Salesforce's Massive Outage Exposes the Hidden Risks of Cloud Dependencies

A seven-and-a-half-hour outage during Dreamforce traced to an internal legacy login service, not third-party infrastructure.
Salesforce spent Dreamforce Wednesday triaging a roughly seven-and-a-half-hour outage that hit at 3:50 a.m. EDT across multiple instances in all regions, causing severe delays, intermittent errors and, for some customers, an inability to even submit support cases.
Requests were stalling while waiting on an internal login service that consumed available server resources; Salesforce blocked API endpoints, attempted rolling restarts, then pushed region-by-region fixes, with some instances needing manual restarts after scheduled jobs failed to run. The company confirmed no third-party infrastructure was involved.
